Will I ever say it’s not another beautiful day in the Pacific NW? Doubtful, but yesterday with so much rain, I came close. Enjoy the Roast!

The above photo is of the Amargosa Opera House, on the California-Nevada border near Death Valley. The story behind why it’s out there in the middle of nowhere is an amazing story. To go from outside where you see a simple adobe building to inside is even more amazing. A story of passion and love.
Curious Stories from the Week
There are two yearly letters I greatly look forward to reading, the first is Warren Buffett’s “Letter to Shareholders” (2018 published letter for 2017, the 2018 letter isn’t out yet.) of Berkshire-Hathaway and there is “Gates Notes” from Bill and Melinda Gates. Two completely different letters but both so very similar. Buffett’s letters are full of ways of thinking. Many call them mental models and that’s exactly what they are. Charlie Munger (Warren’s right hand man in business) and Warren Buffet have created certain ways of thinking about investing and business, then apply those ways of thinking to the business in front of them year-after-year. Increasing the odds of success by boiling down what’s in front of them to simple rules to see the world. Do you have a specific way you see the world and use that to navigate the seas in front of you?
One of my most favorite people in this world, who is probably reading this right now, applies the constructs of Carl Jung, a famous analytical psychologist. His work on archetypes we often fall into from upbringing is a very useful way to interpret not just our own behaviors but those of people we meet and have known all our lives. These too are mental models.
The Gates also offer models for seeing the world. Not applied to business or applied to psychology but applied to elevating the world. Always a good read, I hope you take the time; while you are reading it, can you figure out the context they repeatedly apply to the work they do?

Sadly, nothing of note this week.

What’s with the name, Sunday Roast and Stories Mindfully Curated? Sunday is a good day to do a weekly review. A time to take stock in the past week and get ready for the next. Which is always done with a fine coffee beverage, hence the Roast part. Through the week I share articles and stories that mattered in the long-run, not bits that are of pop culture or political. My goal is always to seek information that is as unbiased as possible, interesting, or enriching. In other words, Mindfully Curated for you.
Some of the links in this newsletter are connected to affiliate marketing links, by which I get a small commission if you click through and buy the book or item from my link. No extra cost to you. All proceeds go to my off-road rally team of which, excess funds go to charity.
